Auto-ID Center and Media Lab Formalize Partnership
The
first meeting of IPID
the Center's new joint research project with MIT
Media Lab, was held on May 3. Executives from companies
sponsoring the Media Lab 'Things that Think' group met with
Auto-ID Center sponsors to learn how the two groups will work
together on next generation Internet technologies to support
Auto-ID. Headquartered at the Media Lab, the research looks
beyond low-cost tags to ask how billions of inexpensive communicating
objects can be tied together into coherent systems. As a new
SIG, IPID builds upon the Media Lab's original Penny PC group,
and also integrates new research initiatives at the Media
Lab to implement data-communication protocol engines at unprecedented
low cost.
